Fractional Units Data Input with Cut Angles Detailed - A Step By Step Guide


1.      From the Tools menu, choose Options and then choose General.

2.      Place a Tick in the Show Hints box to activate the Display of On Screen Hover Help Hints & Click the OK Button.

Hover cloud help hints appear when a user hovers the mouse above a specific command or area on the program screen. This enables new users to understand the software commands.

3.      From the Tools
menu, choose Options and then choose General.

4.      Remove the Tick in the Auto labeling of pieces input box to de-activate the Automatic labeling of pieces input. This enables the user to input their own specific label references. eg Bar1, Bar2, Bar3 etc.

5.      From the Tools
menu, choose Options and then choose General.

6.      Click the Seperator character for using in CSV format files (input data files) tab and select the Seperator characteryou want.

Optimumcut-1D reads and writes its input data in CSV format files (Comma Separated Value).This format can be read and written ( using "save as ..." ) from MS Excel and other spreadsheet programs .

7.      From the Tools
menu, choose Units and then choose Fractional Inch.

8.      Optimumcut-1D automatically configures the Fractional Inch Units.

9.       You can check the configuration by selecting Tools, Options
and Units. You will see the following display.

10.       Click the OK Button when you have checked your configuration.

11.      From the Tools
menu, choose Options and then choose General.

12.      Place a Tick in the Cut angles detail box to activate the Display Of Cut Angles Detail. (If a tick already exists in the box please leave the tick in the box and Click the OK Button.

13.       If you had to place a tick in the box you will be prompted "To enable changes restart the program". Exit Optimumcut-1D & Re-start your program.

14.      Position the mouse pointer over the Project Number
Box & click the left hand mouse button. (The Blinking mouse cursor flashes in the white Box)

15.      Use this box to enter the Cutting Projects Number eg 'P5678'

16.      Press your keyboards Tab
button to move to the Project Name Box.

Use this box to enter the Cutting Projects Name eg "St Barnabys Library"

18.      Press your keyboards Tab
button to move to the Material Description Box

19.      Use this box to enter the Cutting Projects Full descriptive name for the Material being cut eg "2" Dia Mild Steel C.H.S. Galvanised & Painted Ral 9010 "

20.      Position the mouse pointer over the Cut allowance Box & click the left hand mouse button. (The Blinking mouse cursor flashes in the white Box)

21.      Use this box to enter the Cutting Projects Cutting Tool Thickness Waste. eg 0 1/8"

22.      Press your keyboards Tab button to move to the Bar ends Trim Box

23.      Use this box to enter the Cutting Projects amount of bar end trim (if required) so as to remove damaged ends of materials. eg "35"

24.      Press your keyboards Tab button to move to the Recycle waste longer than Box. eg 1"

25.      Use this box to enter the Cutting Projects lengths of offcut pieces to re-use.

26.      Position the mouse pointer over the PARTS REQUIRED
Parts Id. Box & click the left hand mouse button. (The Blinking mouse cursor flashes in the white Box)

27.      Use this box to enter a brief description of the Parts Id. location which could be identified on a production assembly drawing. eg "BAR 1"

28.      Press your keyboards Tab button to move to the Length Box

29.      Use this box to enter the Parts Length. eg 3'-11 1/4"

30.      Press your keyboards Tab button to move to the Quantity Box

31.      Use this box to enter the Parts Quantity.eg 90

32.      Press your keyboards Tab button to move to the Left End Box

33.      Use this box to enter the Parts left end angle cut (Specify angle form 0-180 degrees) eg 90

34.      Press your keyboards Tab button to move to the Right End Box

35.      Use this box to enter the Parts right end angle cut (Specify angle from 0-180 degrees) eg 90

3.      Press your keyboards Tab button to append a new row

37.      Please repeat steps 24.-34. inserting the data as listed below in the following screenshot

38.       If at any time you wish to edit the data input you can use the left & right arrow keys on your keyboard to scroll left or right along the data rows. Or you can position the mouse pointer over the box you wish to edit & click the left hand mouse button.

39.      To add a new row Press Tab & To Delete a row Press Ctrl & Tab

40.      Upon completion of PARTS REQUIRED
Data Input, position the mouse pointer over the CUT FROM LENGTHS Bars Id
. Box & click the left hand mouse button. (The Blinking mouse cursor flashes in the white Box)

41.      Use this box to enter a brief description of the Material being cut. eg 2" DIA C.H.S
. (Generally this description is a smaller abbreviated description of Material Description described in Item 18.)      

42.      Press your keyboards Tab button to move to the Length

43.      Use this box to enter the supply length. eg 10'-0"

44.      Press your keyboards Tab button to move to the Quantity Box

45.      Use this box to enter the bars quantity. eg "99000"
(Please note if you do not know the quantity of bars to order please enter 99000 or a greater value to denote the Markets Supply Of Material Available, Optimumcut-1D will then calculate the Number of bars required)

46.       Press your keyboards Tab button to move to the Cost/foot

47.      Use this box to enter the Cost per Foot of the Bar you are cutting. Please Note By Reducing the Cost of the Supply Lengths from say £5/foot to £4/foot Optimumcut-1D will utilize the lower priced Supply Lengths before using the higher priced Supply Lengths.

48.      Press your keyboards Tab button to move to the %

49.      Use this box to limit the generation of feasible cutting patterns included in the analysis of the solution. 100 % assures a mathemetical optimum, but this value can be impractical if there are a large quantity of different length pieces to cut.

50.       Press your keyboards Tab button to append a new row

51.      Please repeat steps 37.-48. inserting the data as listed below in the following screenshot

52.      Upon Input of all data press the Optimize Button.
